Do you have a gold mine in your back yard? You just might! I recently bought a home back in 2009 that was a foreclosure. As with most foreclosures, the landscaping has been forgotten about and the property has been neglected because the previous owner did not have the finances necessary to maintain the home. As you start completing the required maintenance on your new home purchase expenses can really pile up. That’s when I found my gold mine!
OK maybe not a "gold" mine but it looks similar! There was an existing sprinkler system that was made from copper pipping. As you may know copper prices at the recycle centers are very high. Pull up that pipping and you should have more than enough money to start you out on installing a new system made of PVC.
Now if you can use the existing system go for it! Copper pipping will last a very long time. Trust me in the Navy all I did was copper pipe fabrication, welding and other maintenance. In my case there was to much neglect and damage to the system as well as the sprinkler heads were not where I wanted them for my landscape design.
So far I have dug up some of the existing pipping but not yet turned any in to the recycle centers. As soon as I do I will update you and tell you how it went! I will also start a thread on Landscape design and my sprinkler installation to show you just how easy it is.
